DEMENTIA TOUR AT MAYFIELD VIEW

19th December 10am-4pm

The aim of the tour is to take away your primary senses, to let you experience the fear and frustration people living with dementia go through on a daily basis. It's hoped the experience will show you that someone living with dementia is not challenging or aggressive, but they are living in a complex world, where things do not appear as they used to, familiar things appear unfamiliar and as a result they may have a heightened sense of anxiety.

Yesterday evening a small group of residents with family members celebrated their own anniversary of one year living together at Mayfield View. The dinner party was prepared by Springfield’s Head of Hospitality Steve West and hosted by Teapot Kate – both of whom gave up their own time to make the event happen. Our trolley has been decorated for Christmas!

We use these trolleys to bring nature indoors for our residents, allowing them to experience the different seasons. Not all of residents can experience the outside so we aim to bring the outside to them, to engage and reawaken personal memories of the outdoors.

The trolleys will contain material which will engage all senses, so wherever the individual is on their dementia journey, they can still have the opportunity for stimulation of their sensory faculties which in turn will foster a sense of wellbeing.
